Honda Motor Company on Saturday said it has appointed Takuya Tsumura as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Cars India (HCIL), and he will take charge from April 1. This is consequent to the management changes announced annually by Honda Motor Company. “Tsumura will take over from Gaku Nakanishi, who moves from India to regional headquarters in Asia and Oceania region - Asian Honda as General Manager, Automobile Business for the region,” Honda said in a statement. Tsumura has been associated with Honda Motor for more than 30 years and has vast experience in the automobile industry, having worked in several international markets including Thailand, Australia, China, Japan, Turkey and has worked with overseas division for Europe and Asia and Oceania regions, it said.  He was in charge of South Asian countries, including India, from 1997 to 2000 while working at the head office and has visited India on many occasions for personal and business purposes. During his four-year tenure in India, Nakanishi, in his role as President and CEO of HCIL, steered the company through one of the most challenging business phases, struck by an unprecedented crisis of the pandemic and slowdown.  These years also saw the company take some tough but important decisions to manoeuvre the course of HCIL operations towards strengthening its business constitution.  “He played a key role in expanding HCIL exports with opening of new destinations and also led several initiatives in the field of sales and service to enhance customer experience and dealer profitability,” the company added.
