Skyworth, the Hong Kong-based electronics and home appliances conglomerate, has launched a range of television sets in India, including what it describes as the first ultra-high-definition TV.
The company, which began operations in India from Hyderabad in 2010-11 launching its television sets, has thus far covered South Indian States and plans to go pan-India by the end of 2013.
“We are in the process of also finalising plans for launch of home appliances from Skyworth including washing machines, refrigerators and air-conditioners. As a part of the expansion and addition of portfolio, we are also considering a manufacturing unit in India,” Managing Director (India) Michael Qi Yong said.
He said that the 165-cm display set offers nearly four times the clarity of an HD TV. It is priced at about Rs 6.5 lakh, nearly twice of an HD set.
Skyworth, which already supplies direct-to-home set-top boxes to Indian companies such as Reliance, Airtel, Hathway and Tata Sky, is seeking a bigger share of the market.
“We have completed the test-marketing phase of the TV sets with the launch in Andhra Pradesh and later in other States in South, and we will now go pan-India. This will enable us to get a bigger slice of the Indian market, as we have the capability to offer high quality products at extremely competitive prices,” he said.
The Skyworth team has had discussions with the Government for a manufacturing unit.
