Online healthcare provider iClinic Healthcare is in talks with investors to raise Rs 25 crore to fund its expansion in India.

The company, conceptualised and founded jointly by Sanjoy Mukerji, ex-Chief Commercial Officer of Vodafone India and Britannia Industries Managing Director Varun Berry, is targeting to cover majority of the 1,000 towns in India that have broadband and 3G facilities.

In a statement, iClinic Healthcare said it is in talks with “leading private equity companies and individuals to raise the first tranche to the tune of Rs 25 crore”.

The company was originally funded by its directors with an initial outlay of around Rs 5 crore.

“We are determined to take healthcare to the next level and are reaching patients in over 40 remote towns in India as a first step to reaching millions in the need of specialist care,” iClinic Managing Director, Sanjoy Mukerji said.

The company has already started operations in Karnal, Jind, Kurukshetra and Sirsa in Haryana, Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), Agartala in Tripura, Kosi in UP — and a pilot unit in Lagos, Nigeria, he added.

iClinic Healthcare aims to provide specialist care to patients in semi-urban towns by setting up centres from where they may contact specialists and super specialists in metro locations with the help of the local doctor and consult them for diagnosis, advice and treatment over an online video call with exchange of the patient’s reports over the web.
