IndianOil has partnered with Fortum India, part of the Helsinki-based FortumOYJ, for electric vehicle charging stations.
Launching the first EV charging station in the country for public use in Hyderabad on Saturday, IndianOil said it plans to set up 50 such stations at its retail outlets in the city.
Two demo charging stations were set up earlier for NTPC and NBCC, for use within their facility and, in Nagpur, with a cab operator.
Nina Vaskunlahti, Ambassador of Finland in India, launched the facility virtually, charging an electric vehicle in real time located at Goldstrike Fuel and Services located on Raj Bhavan Road in Hyderabad. And, another unit has been added at a company-owned and company-operated outlet at Begumpet.
Awadhesh Kumar Jha, Vice-President, Fortum India, said, “Plans are on to initially set up 150 to 200 such stations in the country during the year and hinted that it was open to populate these stations in the country as the demand goes up.”
“After the pilot phase we plan to set up 50 such stations in Hyderabad over the next two years,” Rahul Bharadwaj, Executive Director, TS and AP, IndianOil said.
LIGHT HOUSE CITY
Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Telangana, said, “Hyderabad is among six light house cities chosen by the Niti Aayog to take up pilot initiative on electric vehicles. The State is keen to promote EVs and Hyderabad metro has taken several steps to push for Evs.”
Established on BOOT basis for seven years, the charging stations will have two DC charge points each of 10 kW or 15 kW charging capacity. The smart charger can be accessed by an EV user using either Fortum Charge and Drive Mobile App or RFID.
Payment from those who use these stations shall be processed electronically through credit card or debt card initially. Based on the efficacy of the proposed model, it will be taken up at other locations.
