THK, a Japanese major engaged in manufacture of linear motion guides and equipment for transport vehicles, has zeroed in on to Sri City in Andhra Pradesh for a manufacturing base, its first one in India.
THK plans to invest $ 200 million, with $ 50 million in the first phase in its plant in Sri City to cater to the growth of the industrial market in India. The manufacturing facility, spread across 50 acres will start construction by August 2018.
This MoU was signed by Akihiro Teramachi, President and CEO, THK and J Krishna Kishore, Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board in the presence of N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Established in 1971, THK is a $ 3 billion Japanese major engaged in manufacture of linear motion guides for industrial equipment and transportation vehicles. Operating with a sales office in India since 2012, THK will now establish their first India unit in Andhra Pradesh.

In the transportation vehicle-related segment, it is engaged in the development, design, manufacture and sale of steering and suspension parts of automobile and two-wheelers, including link balls and suspension ball joints and others
J Krishna Kishore, Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board said “THK shall accelerate full-scale globalisation by investing in Andhra Pradesh as major production supplies are located near the source of demand. Andhra Pradesh is also poised to catalyse investments in manufacturing.”
Andhra Pradesh is also advocating a Japanese Industrial Townships and Japan India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs) to attract capital, as well as manufacturers.
THK has a manufacturing presence in Japan, North America, China, Korea and Europe and will be embarking their first manufacturing foray in India with Andhra Pradesh.
