Jaguar Land Rover is creating 1,000 new jobs at its Solihull manufacturing plant in the UK, raising the workforce at the site by 25 per cent.

The company said it would be recruiting production operators and skilled trades people immediately. “These are all-paid jobs with great benefits. We provide high quality training and development for all our employees,” said Mr Des Thurlby, Human Resources Director at JLR.

The company has not specified what products they will be working on, except to say that it will be part of the company's target of 40 new product actions in the next four years.

JLR has increased its workforce in the UK significantly over the past year: its plans to build a new engine production plant near Wolverhampton will create 750 jobs, while earlier in the year it recruited 1,500 people at its Halewood plant to work on the Evoque, alongside bringing in 336 graduates and a further 1,000 engineers over the next two years.

The ongoing global financial crisis appears to have had little impact on JLR with demand continuing to rise. Sales in September were 42 per cent higher than the year before against a 26 per cent rise for the Tata Motors Group overall, with sales in the year to date 14 per cent higher. Elsewhere in Europe, the situation for car makers has been bleak, with several companies including PSA Peugeot Citroen, Renault, and Ford, announcing non-production days in Europe.
