JSW Cement, part of $13 billion JSW Group, has enhanced its production capacity by 1.2 million tonne per annum (mtpa) to 2.2 mtpa in its Dolvi Works facility in Maharashtra.

The current expansion will take its installed capacity to 12.6 mtpa.

The company plans to enhance its capacity to 14 mtpa by April with all the expansion projects going on full stream. These projects are in line with its overall strategy to achieve an installed capacity of 20 MTPA by December 2020.

The modern Dolvi plant, which is well connected by rail, road and waterways on western coast, produces Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and Concreel HD, a premium cement product.

Parth Jindal, Managing Director, JSW Cement said that the completion of capacity enhancement at Dolvi Works brings the company closer to achieving its overall target. “We are also evaluating various inorganic opportunities to further ramp up capacity growth,” he said.

JSW Cement uses slag, an industrial by-product of steel manufacturing.

The presence of slag in PSC and Concreel HD increases durability of the concrete, improves long-term strength of concrete and provides maximum resistance to acid, chloride, sulphate and chemical attack compared to Ordinary Portland Cement or Portland Pozzolana Cement, the company said.
