JSW Steel, while in the process of applying for The Deming Prize, has achieved 20 per cent efficiency, improvement in margins and saved raw material conversion cost.

“In October 2018, JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar Works unit in Karnataka was awarded The Deming Prize, for its TQM practices. It is an honour to have won this prestigious Deming Prize award and JSW Steel Vijayanagar facility has achieved this in short time. We implemented the TQM model in 2013 and it has helped us in various ways: Better quality practices, efficiency in production and Improved work culture,” said Dr Vinod Nowal, Deputy MD, JSW Steel.

He added that on the whole, the process has helped the company in improving efficiency in the system and now it is looking forward to implementing the same in Dolvi and Salem plants by 2020.

Deming Prize certification process also saw the company designing the '0757' campaign which inculcated quality process ethics in all employees’ right from those on the shop-floor to the top-floor at JSW Steel Vijayanagar Works.

Rajashekhar Pattanasetty, President JSW Vijayanagar Works said: “TQM implementation at Vijayanagar unit has enabled JSW Steel, over the past five years, to drive operational efficiencies and has strengthened customer service orientation.”
