K Hospitality Corp, which runs the well-known Copper Chimney restaurant chain, is on a massive expansion mode to increase its footprint in India and overseas.

The hospitality group is entering the UAE market through a joint venture partnership with Emirates International Group, to open five Copper Chimney restaurants in the next five years at an investment of $5 million.

Two of the five restaurants will come up in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Kuwait already has two Copper Chimney restaurants through franchise model and plans are underway to open two more within the next two years with an investment of $2 million. Karan Kapur, Executive Director, K Hospitality Corp told the Business Line that having received good response from Kuwait operations the company is going ahead with rapid expansion in other West Asian countries.

“Given the huge Indian Diaspora and well-recognised Indian cuisine, West Asia seemed to be the first choice for entering overseas market. We are looking for Greenfield opportunities in other countries and are in talks with a few for scaling up,” Kapur said.

The company’s primary focus will be to expand in West Asia and North African countries. In the domestic front, the group is focusing on strengthening the presence in the food and beverage category. The group runs three restaurants – Copper Chimney, Bombay Brasserie and Irish House – under food and beverage category in India.

Kapur said, “For Copper Chimney, we are looking at five metros – Chennai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, for our expansion.” The company has 15 restaurants under the Copper Chimney brand, and will open seven more in the coming years.

The other two brands will undergo expansion in parallel. “There are four Bombay Brassiere and 11 Irish House restaurants in the country. We are planning to add three more each within this year,” Kapur said.

“So far it has been mix of franchise and company-owned projects. Going forward, we shall focus on building company-owned restaurants in India,” he added.
