KIOCL Ltd (formerly Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd) will take up exploration of iron ore and gold in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, respectively, in the coming days.
Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of his visit to the pellet plant of KIOCL Ltd in Mangaluru on Saturday, Chaudhary Birender Singh, Union Steel Minister, said that KIOCL has also been recognised as a mineral exploration entity under the MMDR Act 1957 for carrying our mineral exploration works across the country.
Stating that KIOCL should expand its activities to be more attractive in the steel industry, he said the company now is empowered to prospect for iron ore in 100 sq km area in Tirpur district of Tamil Nadu. This will be completed in the next six months.
The company will also work on prospecting for gold in around 200 sq km of area in Mysuru district of Karnataka state. These are the two major assignments that have been given to KIOCL Ltd, he said.
