Detroit-based not-for-profit healthcare organisation, Henry Ford Health System, has signed an agreement with Kwals Hospitality Group to license its culinary wellness recipes that will be served at outlets in food courts in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).

About 500 recipes — first served at Henry Ford hospitals in the US — have been developed under the Henry Ford LiveWell programme. Of these, 200 have been labelled as Smart Heart recipes and will be modified for the Indian palate.

Mark Coticchia, Vice-President and Chief Innovation Officer, Henry Ford Health System, said: “We are already seeing a shift of focus toward preventive healthcare and healthy living. Over the past 10 years, we have been developing the culinary wellness programme based on scientific approaches. Under this initiative, recipes have been developed by metabolic doctors, cardiologists and nutritionists, and we are now bringing these to India through this licensing agreement.”

Emerging economies

India is the first market where the organisation’s culinary wellness recipes would be served through such a licensing agreement. Coticchia said emerging economies, such as India, are witnessing a rise in lifestyle diseases, such as heart conditions, and is expected to impact the country’s health landscape.

Kwals Hospitality Group, which operates and manages food courts, has already opened its first two culinary wellness outlets in Gurugram, serving items such as chicken biryani and kathi rolls.

Sameer Lamba, Managing Director, Kwals Hospitality Group, said: “We plan to have about 23 culinary wellness outlets at various food courts in the Delhi-NCR region in the next one year. Consumers can also consult with nutritionists, present at our outlets, about their diet plans. The key would be to ensure that these healthy recipes are also tasty.”

Lamba said the company would next look at taking these recipes to corporate and office canteens, adding that the recipes would also be available through a subscription model.
