Mr M.C. Jacob, founder chairman of the Anna Kitex Group and one of Kerala's pioneering industrialists, died of heart attack in a hospital here on Sunday evening. He was 78.

Mr Jacob founded the Anna Aluminium Company in 1968 with eight employees at Kizhakkambalam, then a sleepy village on the eastern side of Kochi.

The company gradually grew to become the largest private sector employer in the State. Nearly 15,000 people are employed directly in the group companies that make a variety of products.

An export-oriented unit is part of the Rs 500-crore Anna Group of Companies.

He had won State Government's award for his comprehensive contribution to the development of the State.
