Mahindra Two Wheelers Limited is working on several models and expects to launch its much awaited Mojo super bike early next financial year (April 2015).

The two-wheeler unit, part of the diversified Mahindra Group, is slowly but surely entering new segments with its two-wheelers both motorcycles and scooters. It expects to roll out models in new segments every six months.

Launching its mass segment scooter Gusto in south India, Dharmendra Mishra, Vice President, sales and customer care, Mahindra Two Wheelers, said that the company is now present in the mass market commuter segment, which accounts for about 70 per cent of the total two-wheeler market, with Centuro 110 cc motorcycle range and Gusto scooter range.

“We had earlier indicated our plans to launch at least one new model every six months and we are committed to this. Several segments are being considered by the research and development team based in Pune. This includes a 150 cc scooter,” Mishra said.

The 110 cc Gusto priced starting at Rs 48,100 ex-showroom is about Rs 2,000 lesser compared to competing products from Honda and TVS.

The Mojo sporty super bike, which was showcased in Delhi Auto Show, was expected to hit the road in 2014. This bike is slated to be pitted in the segment where Kawasaki offers Ninja 300, Honda CBR 250 and other bikes from KTM and Bajaj, is stated to be an effort to make a mark in this class of offerings.

Asked about numbers, Mishra said, “We have just begun the journey with the launch of new bikes and scooters and have capacity to produce 1 million units per annum. We have not set any targets but expect to emerge as a big player in due course.”

He said the South India accounts for 40 per cent of the market for such scooters and bikes and Mahindra expects to cater to that demand. The introduction of Gusto in North and Western part of the country evinced good response, he said.
