Automotive major Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M), on Wednesday outlined its plans to launch a series of models on the Maxximo platform. The Maxximo has helped it garner a 22 per cent share in the load dispatch segment in a short span since its launch last year.

“The new range will cover other fuel variants such as CNG for movement in metros, models for load dispatch and passenger movement with different engine configurations and also family vehicles made possible with the Maxximo platform and modern plant set up at Chakan,” Mr Mahesh Kulkarni, General Manager, M&M, said.

Speaking after the launch of the recently introduced Maxximo mini van in South India beginning Hyderabad, Mr Kulkarni said, the market for people movers and load dispatch is rapidly changing. Most owners are upgrading from three wheelers to four wheelers and those owning mini-load carriers and vans are opting for new fuel-efficient models.

“Maxximo will be available across the country through a network of over 600 dealers by the end of May,” he said.

The load transport segment where Tata Ace, M&M and others operate is estimated at 1,90,000 vehicles last year, and the passenger segment 1,50,000 vehicles. The market is growing and offers opportunity to launch more models. “We are averaging over 4,000 vehicles a year and expect to garner a bigger chunk of the expanding market with more models,” he said.
