Village elders and panchayat members from Manesar attended a prayer meeting held by Maruti Suzuki at its car factory in the region on Sunday.
The gathering, where employees were also present, was held in memory of Awanish Kumar Dev, a senior company official who had died in the violence at Maruti’s Manesar facility on July 18. The clash had also left 96 others injured, after which the company declared a lockout from July 21.
“The gathering also prayed for the speedy recovery and health of those injured and traumatised by the violence.
The employees were joined by representatives of the village communities around the Manesar plant. Village elders and panchayat members from the neighbouring villages sought blessings for peace and harmony at the factory,” a company statement said.
Last Thursday, the company had announced that the lockout would be lifted from August 21 with the production of the Swift and Dzire models.
It has also dismissed 500 of the 1,528 permanent workers, based on its own and the Police investigation into the violence. So far, 154 workers, including 12 former Manesar plant union members, have been arrested.
