The country's largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Wednesday reported a decline of 20 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in its domestic passenger vehicles sales to 1,31,385 units in April as compared with 1,63,434 units in same month last year.
In the mini segment (Alto, old WagonR), the company sold 22,766 units during the month, down 40 per cent as against 37,794 units in April last year. In the compact segment (Swift, Celerio, new WagonR, Baleno and Dzire) it sold 72,146 units last month, down 14 per cent as compared to 83,834 units in the corresponding month last year.
Mid-size sedan Ciaz's sales also declined by more than 45 per cent YoY to 2,789 units in April as compared to 5,116 units in April 2018. The utility segment (Vitara Brezza and S-Cross) the company sold 22,035 units during the month of April, up 6 per cent as against 20,804 units in the corresponding period last year.
