The country's largest passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Tuesday launched the all-new Dzire compact sedan priced between ₹5.45 lakh and ₹9.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) as introductory prices.

While the petrol version will be available between ₹5.45 lakh and ₹8.41 lakh, the diesel variant is priced at ₹6.45 lakh to ₹9.41 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).

Dzire will compete with the likes of Ford Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Tata Tiago and Volkswagen Ameo. These models are priced in the range of ₹4.7 lakh to ₹8.41 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki, together with its suppliers, has invested over ₹1,000 crore for the development of the all-new Dzire, the company said, adding that it has superior fuel efficiency at 28.4 kmpl for the diesel variant, claiming it is the most fuel efficient car in India, under test conditions.

The petrol version has a fuel efficiency of 22 kmpl, the company claimed. Built afresh on the fifth generation HEARTECT platform, the all-new Dzire offers more space and comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre diesel engine.

It is wider by 40mm than the outgoing version, MSIL said.

The company said its auto gear shift technology will be offered on both the petrol and diesel starting ‘V’ variants.

MSIL, that started bookings of the new Dzire on May 5, said it has got bookings of 33,000 units till now.

“Dzire was specially created for India, and has been one of the most popular brands ever in the Indian automobile industry. Now we have designed a whole new Dzire for sedan customers, to fulfil the growing aspirations of a young and prosperous India," said Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
