Unfazed by recent curbs on sale of diesel vehicles in the Delhi and NCR, the German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz continues to be upbeat on Indian operations and expects to log in a strong double digit growth this year.

Launching S 400, a new variant of its flagship luxury model the S-Class, the company outlined plans to roll out nine more models during the year in India, part of the proposed launch of 12 models.

With the new S 400, it has launched three models so far. Others in pipeline include GLC SUV and S Cabriolet.

Referred to as the ‘best car in the world’ by the critics and the patrons, the S 400, priced at ₹1.31 crore ex-showroom here, was launched by Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and Yashwant Jhabakh, Group Chairman, Mahavir Motors.

“The year 2015 was successful with Mercedes logging in record sales of 13,502 units, registering a 32 per cent year-on-year growth. While we launched 15 new models, which played a big role in boosting volumes and garnering higher share, we have also strengthened our presence through a strong dealer network,” Folger told BusinessLine .

“We hope to sustain this growth in spite of the recent curbs on sale of diesel models in Delhi and NCR. The first quarter is coming to an end and we have been doing well and expect to sustain this momentum in spite of these curbs and end up with a double digit growth this year as well,” he said.

Folger said with a presence in 40 cities and 83 dealers, it has added to comfort level of the customers.

The network is being further expanded during this year with 10 more outlets. Folger said, “The S 400 will be locally manufactured in Chakan, Pune.”

The new S 400 has a powerful 3-litre, V6 petrol engine that produces 333 hp and 480 Nm of peak torque.
