US-based Microchip Technology Inc. has set up a new R&D centre in Chennai. Spread over 1 lakh sq ft, the centre can accommodate up to 1,200 employees. It has had a presence in the city since 2012. The new centre will focus on IC design, physical design, computer-aided Design, application and software development. It will also catalyse the development of the local ecosystem for integrated circuit design and specialised embedded systems development, says a press release from the company, which has around 1,800 employees in India.
