Mir Projects and Consultants, the project management and consultancy arm of theSouth-based Mir Group, has been awarded the consultancy for the Master Plan preparation and development of Gwalior Counter Magnet Area, through a global bid. Addressing a press conference in Kochi, Mr Arun Kumar, Managing Director, Mir Group, said it was a hotly contested bid with 18 participants, most of them being Europe-based.

The consultancy has been awarded to the company by the Special Area Development Authority (SADA) constituted by the Madhya Pradesh Government for the holistic development of Gwalior.

The plan to develop the Counter Magnet Area has been conceived to reduce the congestion of the National Capital Region which has been witnessing huge influx of migrant population, taxing, thereby, its drinking water, electricity, transport and other basic infrastructural facilities.

The development plan for Gwalior Counter Magnet area would be finalised during the early part of next year. Mir Projects will be developing the Master Plan in association with Prointec, its international partner based out of Spain.

Prointec is a leader in urban development and has played a pivotal role in the regional planning of Almeria Metropolitan Area and Bilbao Metropolitan Area in Spain.

While this will be Mir Group's first foray into urban planning consultancy, it has wide experience in providing consultancy for development of ports and railways.

With almost all cities in India facing acute drinking water, electricity and transport problems, the potential for consultancy in urban planning is huge, Mr Arun said.

Model city

Once developed, Gwalior is expected to emerge as a model city that offers an eco-friendly environment, high quality of life, excellent economic opportunities, good housing facilities and modern infrastructure.

The new urban conglomerate would also have world-class amenities, sewerage, waste management and water treatment facilities, solar power management systems and direct road linkages.
