Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd is ready to meet the demand for polypropylene in South Indian market, according to H Kumar, Managing Director of MRPL.

Speaking at the inauguration of the polypropylene unit of the company in Mangaluru on Sunday, he said MRPL has set up a polypropylene unit with a production capacity of 4,40,000 tonnes per annum as part of its phase-III expansion of the refinery. The estimated cost of this project is ₹1,803 crore.

He said the propylene produced in the refinery will be converted to polypropylene in its polypropylene unit. Since the company is the only one to produce polypropylene in south India, it will be able to channelise this product in the southern market.

There is a demand for around 5 lakh tonnes of polypropylene in the southern market, and the company will be able to meet that demand, he said.
