With the installation of 40 solar streetlights in four villages of Mandvi taluka, in Kutch district of Gujarat, Tata Power has lit up the rural areas around its ultra mega power project (UMPP) at Mundra.
Tata Power, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL), has set up the 4,000 megawatt thermal power plant at Mundra.
Under the project ‘Surayaprakash,’ it recently installed solar-powered streetlights in nearby villages, Tata Power said in a statement on Wednesday.
Villagers near the plant were facing the problem of mobility at night due to absence of street lights. Common area lighting was one of the needs identified during the company’s meetings with the community.
Tata Power installed streetlights with help from Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT). The solar street lights were designed by Tata Power Solar Systems, Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power, said.
CG PL is a special purpose vehicle formed for setting up and operating the 4,000 MW Mundra UMPP. CGPL has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with seven procurers from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab. The first unit of Mundra Power Project, India’s first UMPP, is close to commissioning.
