Ganesh Subramanian, Chief Operating Officer at Myntra.com, has been given a new responsibility as Head – New Initiatives with immediate effect.

Confirming the development, Subramanian told BusinessLine : “As a company, we are thinking long term. Therefore, we are investing to look at continuously creating unique value for customers by challenging the way the fashion business is run at present. For instance, it takes 12-15 months to deliver fashion products from concept to retail to consumers; why should it take so long?”

Prasad Kompalli, who is currently heading Sales and Marketing at Myntra, will be elevated to Head – Retail. As the Retail Head, Kompalli, who joined Myntra in December 2012, will also handle buying and merchandising, which was a part of the COO portfolio until now. “The COO role will be restricted to pure operations hereafter, and we are in the process of identifying a candidate for the same,” said Subramanian.

He has been steadily rising up the ranks since he joined Myntra in April 2012 as its Chief Merchandising Officer, where his primary role was to provide continually improving and differentiating choices of “consumer-right fashion in curated looks” to discerning Indian consumers.

A little over a year into this role, he was elevated to the position of COO in June 2013, with broader responsibilities, including providing unique styles to consumers and delivering a delightful consumer experience through supply chain and logistics.

The management changes have been effected at a time when speculation is rife about Mukesh Bansal, CEO of Myntra & Head of Fashion – Flipkart, taking up a much larger role in the company soon. Fashion as a category is the fastest growing one in e-commerce and is set to eclipse Electronics as the top-selling category shortly, say industry analysts.

Subramanian believes in inspiring Myntra’s target consumers (18-27 years of age) to shop. “Fashion shopping should be inspiration-led and not need-led. We cater to different consumer tastes with our play on Bollywood-led, international, national and private brand labels,” he said.

Prior to joining Myntra, Subramanian was Vice-President and General Merchandising Manager at Bharti Walmart Pvt Ltd.
