Mytrah Energy (India) Pvt Ltd (MEIPL), an independent power producer, recently erected and commissioned the country’s tallest and Asia-Pacific's second tallest met mast in Maniyachi in the Kayathar-Tuticorin belt of Tamil Nadu.

Wind turbine tower heights have experienced a steady increase in the last 20 years, especially in low wind sites and in obstacle-rich environments. Taller towers generate electricity at a lower cost per kilowatt-hour as wind speed and consistency increase with altitude. The 150-metre met mast will help Mytrah perform accurate resource assessment campaigns that reduce uncertainty by capturing data at these heights.

The met mast has six wind speed monitoring levels (150m, 140m, 120m, 100m, 90m, and 50m), three wind direction monitoring levels (138m, 118m, and 48m), two temperature monitoring levels (150m and 10m) and one pressure sensor level (10m).

It is a 450mmx450mm square lattice structure with square tube and has all the sensors placed according to the IEC 61400-12-1 standard, for the accurate measurement of the wind speed and direction.

Post its successful debut in Maniyachi, MEIPL has installed similar masts in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat as well.

The renewable energy company focuses on wind and solar projects in the country.
