With policy paralysis scenario plaguing the domestic economy and fast changing global scene, GMR Infrastructure has infused young blood in its top management.

As part of the strategy, Kiran K. Grandhi has been appointed Managing Director of GMR Infrastructure. He has replaced B.V.N. Rao.

The change came after the company’s board approved the key management reshuffle as part of group’s rotation policy, development and realignment of roles amongst senior management.

Grandhi, who headed – urban infrastructure and highways businesses, has now been given corporate chairman with responsibility for group finance and corporate strategic planning department functions. Rao, who was chairman, is now been made responsible for highways, EPC division, SEZ and GMR Varalakshmi foundation, in addition to his current responsibilities for corporate affairs, legal and procurement.

A senior employee of the company said Grandhi led the group to become one of the top five private airport developers in the world and the largest in India. He was also instrumental in bagging two critical international projects for the Group - Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SGIA), Istanbul, Turkey and Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), Maldives.

In the domestic business, Grandhi led the development (from bid to commissioning) of the country’s first PPP-based Greenfield Airport project at Hyderabad.

Later, he spearheaded the development of the landmark, T3 project at Delhi International Airport.

Grandhi’s association with GMR Group goes back to 1996, when he entered the family business. During his early days as the Group's Director, he spearheaded many strategic projects and forged partnerships that became vital in transforming GMR Group into a leading infrastructure powerhouse.
