NTPC Limited has reported a ₹ 2,925.59 crore net profit for the last quarter of the financial year. This is 40.7 per cent higher than the ₹ 2,079.40 crore net profit reported by the company in the corresponding quarter of previous year.

A company statement said that the Board has recommended a final dividend of ₹ 2.39 per equity share for this fiscal, subject to approval of the shareholders in the ensuing Annual General Meeting. The final dividend is in addition to the interim dividend of Rs 2.73 per equity share for the financial year 2017-2018 paid in February 2018.

Total income for the quarter under consideration stood at ₹ 23,617.83 crore, higher than the ₹ 20,886.85 crore total income reported during the same quarter of last year. There was a lower tax expense borne by the company during the fourth quarter of this year. Total tax expense stood at ₹ 762.67 crore as compared to total tax expense of ₹ 851.11 crore last year.

Gross generation by NTPC for this quarter stood at 68.558 billion units, 7.51 per cent higher than the gross generation reported in the same quarter last year. The higher generation is on the back of more solar power generation during the quarter under consideration.

According to a filing to the exchanges, there has been a dip in the plant load factor (the percentage of power generation from the total installed capacity) of coal, gas and hydro power based projects. PLF of solar power projects was up by 6.03 per cent at 20.27 per cent during March 2018 from 14.24 per cent in March 2017.

For the full year 2017-2018, the average tariff realised by NTPC stood at ₹ 3.23 a unit. NTPC’s coal stations achieved a PLF of 77.90 per cent in the financial year 2017-2018 as against a National Average of 60.72 per cent.

The Audited Total Income for the full year was ₹ 85,207.95 crore, registering an increase of 7.39 per cent over the financial 2016-2017. The Audited Profit After Tax for financial year 2017-2018 is ₹ 10,343.17 crore as compared to ₹ 9,385.26 crore in the previous year, registering a growth of 10.21 per cent.
