NTPC Ltd and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the supply of 50 lakh tonnes of additional coal.

According to a statement, the supply agreement will be valid for one year and enable NTPC stations meet additional fuel requirements.

The MoU was signed by Mr S.N. Goel, Executive Director (Fuel Security), and Mr Suresh, Chief General Manager (Marketing), on behalf of NTPC and SCCL, respectively in the presence of Mr S. Narasing Rao, CMD, Singareni Collieries, and Mr N.N. Mishra, Director (Operations), NTPC, and Mr Jayadeb Nanda, Regional Executive Director (South), NTPC, among other senior officials.

As per the arrangement, Singareni Collieries would supply 50 lakh tonnes of additional coal to NTPC stations for a period of one year from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012 in addition to the supply of 102 lakh tonnes of coal per annum under the existing long-term fuel supply agreement with NTPC.

This additional 50 lakh tonnes of coal would be utilised mainly to meet the shortages being faced by NTPC coal-based stations.
