Photon Energy Ltd has installed a 800 kWp rooftop solar plant for the Swedish home furnishing retail major Ikea's first store in Hyderabad, which was commissioned last month.
The Hyderabad-based solar power solutions company, which offers its solutions under Photon Solar, has bagged the mandate from Ikea to implement its rooftop solar plant for Hyderabad store and the upcoming stores at Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Gautham Nalamada, Executive Director of Photon Energy, told BusinessLine , “This is a prestigious engagement for us as we are working with one of the biggest global retailers. We won the mandate amidst competitive bids and are engaged as an EPC solutions provider.”
The solar rooftop plant is one of the country's highest solar power installed per square metre plant using mono-perc modules with over 18.6 per cent efficiency from China-based Silicon Module Super League member Longi Solar. The solar plant has been anchored to the rooftop without any civil footings or roof drilling.
This rooftop plant with 2,223 modules and 10 inverters were installed in 30 days. It will create significant cost savings in Ikea's monthly energy bills and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
3E, an independent global engineering consultancy company, provided the design validation and technical clearances ensuring best global and engineering design and execution of the plant.
Gautham said: “Photon will also install and commission solar rooftops in all Ikea's upcoming stores starting with Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru stores next. Designing of these plants is now underway. Once the stores are ready, we will work on them.”
Globally, Ikea installs renewable energy units as part of its sustainability initiative. It plans to replicate this in India too.
