Following direct-to-home service provider Dish TV's announcement of offering 30 channels in HD (high definition)-like quality, Reliance Digital TV (Formerly Reliance BIG TV) has announced it will provide its entire bouquet of 250 channels in HD-like quality to its subscribers.
According to a company's announcement, the new technology allows up-scaling the existing video resolution into high definition quality through real time conversion. The technology will enlarge and digitally process the standard definition picture 10 times over to offer 10-times sharper, brighter and more vivid, with digital sound clarity. According to brochures available in the market, the new service is being offered at its regular HD service entry fee of Rs 2,590 with no change in monthly packages. However, while its existing HD service subscribers do not have to pay anything for the new service, its existing regular service subscribers have to pay an upfront fee of Rs 2,090 (Rs 500 discount) to upgrade to HD service, as it requires a HD set-top box.
