Restaurant company Riga Food SRL, owned by celebrity Chef Ritu Dalmia and industrialist Analjit Singh, announced on Friday that it has acquired a 20 per cent stake in Alicette SRL for an undisclosed sum. Alicette, a Milan-based fine-dining restaurant company, is owned by Michelin-starred chef Viviana Varese.

Riga said in a statement that the acquisition is in line with its international expansion plans. The company already has a presence in Italy with the launch of its Indian-Italian restaurant Cittamani in 2017. It is slated to open another restaurant in Milan, called Spica, later this year.

Dalmia said, “This partnership is a natural fit as we both share the same passion and values. I am confident that this association will help expand and strengthen our presence in Italy and all over Europe to bring the best of Indian and Italian food to our patrons.”

Riga Food was set up by Dalmia and her partner in 2000, when it launched its first restaurant Diva, in New Delhi, which currently runs restaurants in Delhi and Goa. In 2016, Analjit Singh-led Piveta Estates decided to acquire 51 per cent stake in Riga Foods.

Singh, Founder Chairman Emeritus of Max Group, has a 10 per cent stake in Alajmo SpA, owned by Italian brothers Massimiliano (Max) Alajmo, the world’s youngest three-star Michelin chef, and Raffaele (Raf), the company’s Chief Executive and maître des lieux .
