In sync with its tagline “There’s a little bit of SAIL in everybody’s life”, the maharatna firm is “extensively” expanding its dealership network to increase domestic sales and the steel usage.

“With a view to widen the reach of steel products, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is in the process of expanding its dealer network extensively.

As on December 1, SAIL dealership network consists of 2,582 dealers spread over 630 districts,” the state-run firm said in an official statement today.

However, it did not elaborate on its future plans on spreading the dealership network. A SAIL spokesperson said the company started to expand its dealership network in 2004 with just 97 dealers.

Through its dealership network, SAIL had sold six lakh tonnes of such products last fiscal and targeted to enhance it by 10 per cent in the current fiscal.

As on January-end, it has gone past the five lakh tonnes mark and the steel major hopes the target could well be achieved since the construction activity is in full swing now.

“Spreading the dealership network is aimed at helping the customers to get their desired products closer to doorsteps. We ensure quality and competitive price as well,” the spokesman said.

Besides dealers, SAIL has a strong marketing network spanning across the country with 37 branches, 67 ware houses and 26 customer contact offices.
