Special effects company Makuta, which was associated with the Telugu flick Eega , plans to expand its operations, as it sees the Indian animation and special effects sector touching a faster growth rate.

"We are expanding our studio in Hyderabad and taking aboard about 250 professionals in the next few months," Mr Pete Draper, Chief Technical Director, told media persons here today. He said the studio will also be bringing in new technology to better the quality of its products.

Eega (housefly in Telugu), which hit 1,200 screens globally earlier this month, drummed up Rs 46.2 crore worldwide in the first three days.

A Nasscom report says that the global animation market is likely to touch $100 billion by the end of this year.  The domestic industry, which was $494 million in 2008, is projected to reach $1 billion by 2012 end.

Makuta, which created the fly in the movie, is in talks with two production houses, including one in Bollywood, for new projects.

Suresh Production, which co-produced the film, plans to release the hindi version of the film, Makhi , across 500 screens in August-September.  "We are toying with the idea of releasing the Hindi version in 3-D, but we are yet to take a final call," Mr Suresh Babu, said.
