The passing-out ceremony of the first batch of ‘Hotels House Keeping' course for students of Bosco Academy for Skills and Employment, taken up by Taj Group of Hotels, was held here at Vivanta by Taj Malabar. All the 34 members of the batch were successfully placed in the industry.

As a strategy to help students from socially and economically challenged backgrounds, for skill development and employment, The Taj Group of Hotels, in association with Don Bosco and Ministry of Rural Development, have ventured upon a Skill Development Programme. The training in Hospitality Management, namely, Hotel House Keeping, is the first programme to be offered under this scheme by the Don Bosco in association with Taj Group of Hotels as Knowledge and Training Partner.

By following the trend of recruitment by the organised and unorganised sectors as well as the manufacturing industry, it is evident that the recruitment paradigm has shifted from conventional graduates to students who have the right mix of attitudes, soft skills, grooming and the required technical skills to start their career. To meet this changing demand for skills successfully, Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan, with Taj Group of Hotels started this program in Palluruthy, Kochi, for skill development of youth in the service sector.

The project aims to implement the skill up-gradation training program for poor youth through Don Bosco in collaboration with Taj Group of Hotels as the Knowledge partner. The project was implemented first as a pilot project. The course started with the training in House Keeping, will move on to Food and Beverages Service, and then advance further.

This course is offered free for rural, below poverty line candidates, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, helps DB Tech with the financial support needed to train the rural below poverty line students. The students are mainly sourced through various NGOs and other associations
