Our Bureau With launch plans in early next year, Tata Motors on Tuesday rolled out the first production model of its upcoming SUV, Harrier, from an all-new production line.
Tata Harrier, which borrows technology and manufacturing practices from Jaguar Land Rover, needed a completely new approach to product development and manufacturing processes.
The completely new assembly line has been built in a record time of six months and boasts 90 per cent automation levels with over 100+ KUKA and ABB robots.
Tata Motors opened bookings for the Harrier about two weeks ago and claims the SUV has already received tremendous response.
“With the all-new assembly line ready and the roll out of the first Harrier, we are now gearing up to start deliveries in early 2019. We are confident that the Harrier will set new benchmarks in the SUV segment, in 2019,” said Tata Motors’ President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Mayank Pareek.
The Harrier, which is a five-seater monocoque SUV, is engineered on a new generation architecture, Optimal Efficient Global Advanced or Omega, derived from Land Rover D8 architecture and developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover.
