Tecumseh Products Company, a US-based major manufacturer of compressors for air-conditioners and refrigeration applications, including for large industrial requirements, is planning to increase the number of products made out of India, while ramping up one of the manufacturing facilities for domestic market requirements and exports to the region.

With two manufacturing units in India based at Hyderabad and Ballabgarh which make ozone-friendly compressors and condensing units, the company, which is the only rotary compressor maker in the country, is looking at ramping up the facility to manufacture a wider range of products.

The expansion is aimed at both the domestic consumption and international markets, according to top executives of the company.

Mr Michael Noelke, Executive Vice-President, Global Sales, Marketing and Engineering, Tecumseh, said the Indian operations of the company have been strategic not only for the local market but also as a supplier of products made for the region.

The Managing Director of Tecumseh India, Mr R. Ravi, said: “the company, which is a leading supplier of compressors, is playing a major role as a solutions provider for specialised applications in air-conditioning and commercial products for industrial requirements. The manufacturing unit at Ballabgarh is set to reach its full capacity during the year requiring us to ramp it up.”

Direct current products

Speaking to Business Line coinciding with ACREX being held at Bangalore, they said Tecumseh has announced the unveiling of a new range of air-conditioning and refrigeration products, including direct-current (DC) compressors. The DC compressors have been designed specifically for battery cooling applications within the regions’ growing telecom market.

The DC range would have multiple applications for refrigeration systems for beverage, marine segments and a growing number of mobile refrigeration systems across both urban and rural markets. This could be deployed for solar-powered applications too.
