TVS Motor Company, the country’s third largest two-wheeler company by volumes, on Thursday introduced Radeon, a 110 cc bike.

Priced at ₹48,400 (ex-showroom, New Delhi), Radeon will target people aged 25-35 years, living in small towns and villages.

TVS Motor has spent about ₹60 crore in the development of the Radeon. Powered by DuraLife engines, the bike offers a mileage of about 69 kmpl. It will churn out 8.4 PS of power @ 7,000 rpm with a torque of 8.7 Nm @5,000 rpm, said the company.

The key features include larger wheels with sync braking technology to minimise skidding, high ground clearance, powerful headlamp, thigh pads on petrol tank, large cushioned seat and a USB charging spot. It comes in white, beige, purple and black.

“For this segment of customers, Radeon offers larger seat with a comfortable design and many features are first-in-class and first-in-the-segment. We plan to sell two lakh units of the new Radeon bike in the next 12 months,” Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director of TVS Motor, said during the launch.

Radeon will be the company’s fourth motorcycle after the 100 cc Sport, 110 cc StaRCity and 110 cc Victor to be sold in the commuter segment.

“The product offerings in the middle category of the commuter segment have not kept pace with the changing tastes of buyers. Hence, we see a great opportunity to attract more customers with the feature-packed Radeon,” said Aniruddha Haldar, Vice-President (Marketing) - Commuter Motorcycles, Scooters and Corporate Brand, TVS Motor Company.

Electric two-wheelers

Asked about the company’s plans to launch electric two-wheelers, Venu said: “We believe electric is very important for our future. As hybrids, we also have ethanol-based Apache bikes and we are investing in electric and alternative fuel technologies.”

The company had showcased TVS Creon, its electric scooter concept, in the Auto Expo 2018.

According to industry experts, scooter could see early adoption of electric versions among other vehicle categories.

With the average daily distance travelled by scooters well within the available ranges, and with the possibility to get the charging done overnight at homes, this segment will have better pull for electric versions. Also the technology challenges for scooters are fewer than for larger vehicles.
