Manufactured by UM Lohia Two Wheelers, the Indian arm of the American Motorcycle UM International LLC, along with Lohia Auto, these are powered by liquid cooled, single cylinder, four stroke, spark ignition, making them a blend of practicality and versatality.

Jose Villegas, Director, UM India, said, “There is a latent demand for such bikes with varied customer needs in India. Such customers are aware, ready to experiment and follow their gut. With the launch of these two bikes, we are looking to attract young leaders.”

The company, which has a manufacturing unit in Uttarakhand, expects to achieve sales volume of over 28,000 units this fiscal up to March 2018.

“While we have a manufacturing capacity of about 5,000 units per a month, or 60,000 units per annum, we are looking at setting up another R&D centre and manufacturing units in the western region, in the Mumbai-Pune automotive hub,” he said.

The new facility, which will have the capacity to make about 1,20,000 units per annum, will see investment of about Rs 100 crore.

“Within a short span, we have achived a localisation level of over 70 per cent. Our vision is to further increase localisation. The benefits of localisation will be passed on to the consumers,” he said.

Referring to its versatile range of over 25 motorycyles, he said the Florida-based company is planning to launch its first electric cruiser bike later this month in Europe and this would be followed by a launch in Milan, Italy.
