Minnesota-based Ecolab, a provider of water, hygiene and energy technologies, in partnership with SMC2 has set up Ecolab Digital Center (EDC) in Bengaluru.

“The EDC in two months of its operations has ramped up its headcount to 80 people and is expected to serve as a global Digital Innovation Centre of Excellence,” Charles F Koontz, EVP and Chief Digital Officer, Ecolab, told BusinessLine.

He further said, “Digital technology is already driving innovation and improving business outcomes in every industry we serve, and our customers are looking to us to lead.”

The 95-year-old, $14-billion company aims to meet growing global demand for predictive solutions by using India’s huge talent pool for digital development.

“For this, we have partnered with SMC2, a provider of digital centre development, Ecolab will increase the speed, scale and efficacy of its digital offerings. Teams at the EDC will work collaboratively with Ecolab’s information technology and commercial digital solutions teams to accelerate the introduction of key digital solutions,”said Koontz.

“Currently, we produce water treatment, food and laundry solutions in two manufacturing plants in Kolkata and Pune, and operates Global Systems Assurance Centre in Pune. The facility monitors around 40,000 global customer sites and also helps them save water and energy,” said Anil Arcalgud, EVP and Chief Information Officer Ecolab.

“Given that India is resource constrained in water, energy, and food our ongoing digital investments, including the Systems Assurance Centre and now the Ecolab Digital Centre, will play a vital role in India. These investments will also help fulfil the ‘Make in India’ ambitions of our customers,” explained Mukund Vasudevan, Ecolab Vice-President and Market Head, India.
