VE Commercial Vehicle (VECV) has introduced AMT (Automated Manual Transmission)-equipped range of medium duty trucks and 9-16 tonne buses which it hopes will drive sales on higher fuel efficiency.

Prices of these AMT-powered vehicles are expected to be 5-6 per cent higher than the conventional transmission vehicles.

This new AMT technology will improve the fuel efficiency further, contribute to comfort, safety and overall productivity of our vehicles, according to Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles. VECV seeks to target the state transport undertakings (STUs) for AMT buses in the near term as it expects huge fuel savings and driver comfort will be attractive for STUs.

The AMT-powered vehicles will be manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility located in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. The AMT technology (OptiDrive™) has been provided by Wabco, a leading global player for safety and control parts in commercial vehicles. “Gradually, we will introduce the technology across all ranges,” said Aggarwal.

The company expects about 10 per cent of the overall truck and bus market in India to move to AMT in the next two-three years on the back of growing awareness on safety and overall cost of ownership.
