Volkswagen has announced that the new electric version of its Up minicar, the E-Up, will carry a substantially higher price tag than the rival Zoe from Renault.
The E-Up goes on sale for 26,900 euros — 5,200 euros more than the Zoe. According to Germany’s Autobild motoring gazette, The VW also has a shorter range — a maximum of 160 kilometres between charges instead of 184 km for the Zoe.
VW says the E-Up’s lithium-ion batteries can be charged up to 80 per cent of capacity within 30 minutes. The runabout takes a lethargic 14 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometres per hour and has a top speed of 135 km/h.
In order to distinguish it from conventional Ups, the EV gets new 15-inch alloy wheels, curved LED headlights and light grey seats.
