Volvo Auto India has launched the all-new V40 in India packed with the aura of a compact car with large-car content and plans to introduce its bigger new SUV XC90 later this year.
Packed with several new features to a full deck of safety and support systems from larger models, this makes the V40 the most IntelliSafe car in the segment, a top company executive said.
Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, said: “V40 represents a model which is premium in design, features, technology and safety redefining the compact luxury offering in the segment. It is way ahead of the competition when it comes to intelligent accident prevention and mitigation. The car will bring in new impetus to our growth strategy in India.”
The interior is designed to offer the driver and passengers a spacious and relaxing atmosphere with a true Scandinavian flavour, he said.
The new V40 will be available in D3 Kinetic and D3 R-design, 6-speed automatic transmissions with 150HP and a whopping 350Nm torque.
The two variants launched today, V40 Kinetic at ₹24.75 lakh and the V40 R-Design at ₹27.7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) will be retailed through Volvo dealerships across the country starting today.
In order to mitigate the consequences if a collision with a pedestrian is unavoidable, the Volvo V40 is available with a Pedestrian Airbag, a world first. Sensors in the front bumper register the physical contact between the car and the pedestrian.
The rear end of the bonnet is released and at the same time elevated by the deploying airbag.
The Swedish luxury company Volvo Auto India currently offers five luxury models — Volvo S80 (saloon), Volvo S60 (A sporty sedan), Volvo XC60 (a luxury SUV), Volvo V40 Cross Country and Volvo XC90 (A 7-seater luxury SUV).
It is in the process of introducing the new XC 90 large SUV later this year.
The car has received overwhelming response globally since its introduction, he said.
The company is evaluating the possibility of an assembly unit though no decision has been taken on this as yet.
