Logistics start-up WoW Express has entered the business of moving human body fluids and blood samples from collection centres to central diagnostic labs through a new venture, Wow Health Express. Over the past six months, it has tied up with 10 large diagnostic companies, and currently collects 2,000 samples a day from 60 resource centres across eight cities.

With an integrated app-based system, a centralised diagnostic centre can make advance preparations for tests, as it will be informed about the number of samples being collected and the exact time it will reach the centre. WoW Express staff is also equipped to carry cash from the collection centres to the centralised diagnostic centres.

When the idea was pitched with diagnostic labs, they accepted it immediately since logistics is not their core competence, recalled Wow Express co-founder Sandeep Padoshi. Also, it would free up their capital for other activities.

In fact, 1.5-2 million samples are moved across the country with no organised players to tap the intra-city opportunities, observed Padoshi. The market size of diagnostic logistics is estimated at ₹3,500-4,000 crore a year, and is expected to grow multi-fold with large diagnostic companies opening collection centres in tier-II and III cities, he added.

Wow Health Express aims to move 50,000 samples a day, enhance its client base to 30 from the current 10, and reach revenues of ₹60 crore in two years.

WoW Health Express typically charges ₹25-100 per sample for intra-city and ₹300-400 for inter-city logistics. The delivery staff earn ₹20,000 per month with a ₹50 per day incentive for efficient use of the mobile app.

The company plans to raise about $10 million in six months.
