Xilinx Inc, a Nasdaq-listed semiconductor company, will hire about 200 engineers for its India centre here. The centre, which houses about 1,000 employees, is its biggest research centre outside the US.

“We have recently started a new line of opportunity in data centres. We are talking to data centre companies to market our products,” Neeraj Varma, Director (Sales - India, Australia and New Zealand), told reporters here on Tuesday.

Victor Peng, Chief Executive Officer, Xilinx, interacting with reporters through video conference, said that the company was looking at revenues of about $3 billion in the current financial year as against $2.5 billion last year.

He said the opportunities in 5G, datacentres and automobiles will drive the growth this year.

He announced the release of adaptive compute acceleration platform (ACAP) that goes “far beyond the capabilities of an Field Programmable Gate Arrays.” FPGAs are semiconductor devices that are based on configurable logic blocks connected via programmable interconnects.

This, he said, would have huge advantages in the emerging era of big data and artificial intelligence.
