Zydus Cadila on Friday announced the launch of anti-diabetic tablet, Tenglyn – Teneligliptin 20 mg tablets, which belong to a new class of oral anti-diabetic agents, Gliptins.

The newly launched tablet is one of the most affordable tablet for diabetic patients. Tenglyn is being priced at just ₹7 per tablet which is almost one-sixth the price at which the Gliptins were initially launched in India.

Gliptins have shown promise in achieving glycemic control without deteriorating beta cell function and is one of the most recent advancements in diabetes care and management. Research in the field of anti-diabetic therapy seeks to address the problems of hypoglycemia, GI side effects, lactic acidosis, weight gain, CV risks and so on, which pose a major challenge in the treatment of diabetes.

Commenting on the launch, Sharvil Patel, Deputy Managing Director, Zydus Cadila, said: “Diabetes, as we know, is becoming a major health burden globally. The incidence of diabetes is an alarming one with the number of diabetics in the world is estimated at 360 million. With a patient population of almost 65 million diabetics in India, access to affordable therapy is critical. The launch of Tenglyn will help patients in India suffering from Type II diabetes, the company informed.
