“Find your own natural style as a leader.” That was the simple message Mr Hans-Paul Bürkner, President and CEO of the Boston Consulting Group delivered at a meeting of the CII-Young Indians. Speaking on the topic ‘Leadership in a global world,’ he underlined the need for leaders to be authentic, rather than copy someone else and create a façade.
A key element of leadership, Mr Bürkner said, was to create a strong and diverse team. “The diversity and strengths of the team decide your success as a leader. Such a team can carry the momentum forward,” he reasoned.
Answering a question on whether a leader has to be charismatic, Mr Bürkner said you can also be a great leader by sitting together with one person, helping him or her find purpose. “This is even more important as a leadership capability than getting a standing ovation by giving a great speech.”
