Academic excellence is not good enough to become a successful entrepreneur, said Mr D T Ramanuja, Director, National Academy of RUDSETI.

Delivering the Business Line Club lecture on ‘Tenets of entrepreneurship' sponsored by Syndicate Bank for the students of Vishnupriya College of Management Studies, he told the students to develop soft skills and be confident.

“You are responsible for your life and, hence, you must be willing to revolutionise your life as revolutions are created by 1 per cent of people. And, you can become first-generation entrepreneurs, if you develop positive perception towards life,” he said.

Mr Ramanuja further said an entrepreneur is one who has possession of a new enterprise, a venture or an idea and assumes significant accountability for inherent risks and outcome of a product.

Speaking about the present scenario and potential for growth, he said there was a spurt in entrepreneurial activities.

“New products and services are available in the market and first-generation entrepreneurs are entering the scenario and are growing successfully. There is easy availability of technology and skilled people and the environment is congenial for enterprise development.

There is also great scope for new and innovative entrepreneurial activities. The capital for investments is easily available and above all, there is immense potential for creative people,” Mr Ramanuja said.

He remarked that attitude and motivation were needed to start an enterprise. “Positive attitude is the primary component of entrepreneurship as it is a risk-involving proposition. You also need to keep yourself motivated all the time. You also must come out of your comfort zone as there is no substitute for hard work,” he said.

“Taking initiative, seeking and acting on opportunities, persistence, information-seeking, efficiency orientation, use of strong strategies, systematic planning and above all, you need to develop problem-solving abilities to be a successful entrepreneur,” he added.

Students were informed about SyndYuva and SyndVidya, products launched by Syndicate Bank. Mr Y. N. Ramachandra Reddy, President, Vishnupriya Group of Institutions, and Mr N. Chandrashekar, Principal, Vishnupriya College of Management Studies, were present.
