Fresh investments to the tune of Rs 575.44 crore in 2,082 new enterprises were registered in Ernakulam district during the last financial year. This has also generated nearly 2,000 jobs in the district.

Figures released by the District Industries Centre for the last financial year pointed out that a capital investment subsidy of Rs 4.12 crore was disbursed last year for 91 new business establishments. The DIC disbursed more than Rs 66 lakh in margin money for 31 industrial enterprises during last financial year.

As many as 16 entrepreneurs received Rs 8.25 lakh as financial help under the self-employment scheme introduced by the State Government. Similarly, 27 units were started by women entrepreneurs during the period. These new units received Rs 20.95 lakh.

A total of 8 new entrepreneurs received help under the Prime Minister’s Employment Guarantee Scheme (PMEGP). These eight entrepreneurs received more than Rs 41 lakh in guarantee from banks and financial institutions, a statement issued here said.

Industrial cooperative societies received Rs 3.25 lakh for holding training programmes and six enterprises were sanctioned Rs 16.81 lakh as turnover subsidy.

The new office complex for the District Industries Centre was inaugurated at Kakkanad last month and the foundation for the common facility centre for rice bran oil in Kalady was laid last month, the press statement said.

The Union Government has sanctioned a total of Rs 4.73 crore for the common facility centre and the State Government sanctioned Rs 1.63 crore. The consortium has made a contribution of Rs 3.64 crore. The industrial complex at Edayar is at its final stage, the statement added.
