The Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, not only succeeded in wooing representatives of 90 countries, 30 MNCs, and scores of Indian business honchos to the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit 2011 that commenced here on Wednesday, he also managed to bring the Ambani brothers, Mukesh and Anil, on the same platform in what was, perhaps, a first in about six years.

But the brothers were not seen interacting with each other, with seven others sitting between them in the first row.

In the 2009 Summit, while Mr Mukesh Ambani, CMD of RIL, had attended the inaugural function, his younger brother, CMD of ADAG, had attended the valedictory function the next day. Apparently, the two brothers have not shared the dais since the separation of their businesses some six years ago.

On Wednesday, while Mr Mukesh Ambani sat third to the left of the Chief Minister, Mr Anil Ambani sat fifth to the right of Mr Modi.

While Mr Anil Ambani began his address with “….the respected Mr Ratan Tata, respected elder brother, Mr Mukesh Ambani…”, the latter avoided his younger brother's name in the speech.

While in 2009 Mr Mukesh Ambani had announced fresh investments in Gujarat, this time his younger brother did so. Mr Anil Ambani moved about the business leaders. Mr Mukesh Ambani mostly remained silently seated.
