The monsoon depression that had stalled over west-central Arabian Sea on Monday beat forecasts yet again to undergo another round of intensification overnight on Tuesday.

In doing so, it churned to within a spin away from being declared as a tropical cyclone.

LANDFALL TOMORROW

An India Meteorological Department (IMD) expected the system to move west-northwestwards and cross south Oman and adjoining Yemen coast close to south of Salalah around morning of Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the fresh upper air cyclonic circulation persisted over southeast Arabian Sea, with independent forecasts suggesting its intensification into another storm.

This system is initially seen as taking a track almost similar in alignment as the previous deep depression aimed towards the Yemen/Oman coasts.

There are also early forecasts of a storm, a likely cyclone, spinning up over the southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal around the weekend and travelling in a direction aiming the Tamil Nadu coast.

BAY STORM?

But these are as yet very indications, which need to be closely watched, according to independent experts. IMD wind map projections supported the outlook as has a US naval forecast.

Meanwhile, the trough of low extending from southwest Bay of Bengal to west-central Bay of Bengal persisted on Tuesday.

Insat satellite pictures on Tuesday afternoon revealed the presence of convective clouds over parts of south peninsular India, south and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, south Andaman Sea, the Comorin area and northwest, central and south Arabian Sea.

HEAVY WEATHER

An IMD weather warning valid for the next two days said that heavy rainfall would break out at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

An extended outlook valid until Sunday said that rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over extreme south peninsular India.

Meanwhile, to the northwest of the country, the western disturbance over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir persisted.

It is affect to affect the western Himalayan region until Friday, the IMD said.
