The annual average salary offered to students of Indian Institute of Rural Management-Anand (IRMA) in the just-concluded placements has seen an increase of 34% over the last year's, at Rs 8.03 lakh a year.

The 102 students of the 30th batch of the two-year Post-graduate Programme in Rural Management (PRM) will complete the programme and be eligible for being awarded the Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM) in April 2011. IRMA's graduating batch this year is a diverse mix of students, ranging from engineers, doctors, biotechnologists, economists, historians, veterinarians, and agri-graduates, many of whom have a lot of work experience.

63 firms participated

The 63 organisations participating in the process represented a wide range of sectors, organisational forms and orientations offering various challenging profiles to the participants. The domains on offer included finance, research and advisory, agri-business, ICT, renewable energy, livelihood promotion, watershed development, education and health.

The common thread joining the recruiters across the sectors is their commitment to cater to the needs of rural development, IRMA said. Altogether 257 jobs were announced by 63 organisations for 99 participants who participated in the campus placement. Twenty offers were made by Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation.

The newly set up NDDB Dairy Services (NDS) gave four offers. Two participants were recruited for Schneider Electric's innovative BipBop programme which aims to provide energy access to rural India.

The “Essence of Life” programme of ITT Corporation that intends to provide innovative water management solutions to the farmers, particularly to the small and marginal ones, have recruited two participants for India operations and have shown interest for their similar operations in countries from Africa. ITC, ICICI, and other companies also made strong offers.
